MAYOTTEgroup Architects honors former president
Michael B. Mayotte

Michael Mayotte of MAYOTTEgroup Architects passed away on October 1, 2009 at the age of 52. Michael was known for the quality of design and leadership of his work across nearly three decades and numerous architectural project types.

Born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan to the firm founder Bernard and Jean Mayotte. Michael joined his father’s firm, then known as MBDS Architects, after graduating from Lawrence Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in 1982. Mike successfully combined the talent of an artist, the detail of an architect, and the acumen of a businessman throughout his career. The Lansing community is fortunate to have had a man of such integrity, respect and commitment.

Some of the Michigan area commissions that bear Mike’s signature have included: Cooley Law School, American Board of Emergency Medicine, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, St. John’s Student Parish,  State of Michigan Operations Center, MESSA, Country Club of Lansing, Clark Construction Company, St. John the Evangelist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church,  just to name a few. Michael’s architectural influence has shaped the Lansing area skyline, area businesses and influences the daily lives of its citizens. We will all continue to benefit from his lifetime of design, leadership and dedication for generations to come.

Mike has served as the planning commission chairman for the City of Grand Ledge, has been a past president of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and has taught architectural classes at Michigan State University and at Lansing Community College.

Mike is survived by his wife Lynette, Daughters Elyse and Lauren, and son Michael.

Those of us who continue the work at MAYOTTEgroup Architects owe Mike a debt of gratitude for his talent and leadership. While Mike may have left us, he will carry on in our hearts. Mike was a kind man who gave of himself to everyone, and he will be greatly missed.

Cards may be sent to the Mayotte family in care of MAYOTTEgroup Architects, 6005 W. St. Joseph Hwy, Lansing, Michigan 48917.
